This is the spreadsheet I wish I had when I was just getting started at planning my spending, and every time I made a major choice about things like whether or not that rent payment really was affordable.

And it’s bonkers easy and quick to use.

All you need to do is put in the number that shows up on your paycheque, and how often you get paid. Then, you see how your income breaks down into a monthly budget, based on some often-recommended percentages.

Literally, it’s that easy.

“How much do you make? Here’s a budget.”

But, because life is never quite that simple – and because hey, personal finance is personal – there are two ways you can play around with it.

You can change the recommended percentages to figure out how you want to break down your spending (like if you want to save 50% of your income, for example!)

Or, you can head over to the “Check Your Percentages” tab and input how much you really do spend in each category, and it’ll tell you what percentage of your income you really spend on that category.

Ahem, checking out how much of my income I spend on rent, anyone?

It’s meant to be a good gut check on your budget, and a great way to (very quickly!) get an idea of what “the fabled experts” think you should be spending every month.
